Museum Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt –biographie

Fritz Engel was born in Berlin on April 30, 1904. He was unmarried and lived at Lange Straße 79 in Berlin-Friedrichshain in 1939, then from November 1942 in the Jewish Community home at Auguststraße 16. Fritz Engel worked as a brush binder in Otto Weidt’s workshop. He was presumably blind.
On December 9, 1942, Fritz Engel was deported along with four other men and one woman working at the workshop to Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, and murdered there. On January 23, 1943, senior court bailiff Paech noted on the inventory carried out of his former accommodation: “fruitless, E. was in hospital here.” A Stolperstein memorial stone has been installed in Fritz Engel’s memory outside the building at Lange Straße 79 in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
