Museum Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt –biographie

Arthur David was born in Berlin in 1887. He attended elementary school and Jewish religious school, before completing commercial training. He served on the front as a member of the Landsturm forces from 1915 to 1918, awarded the cross of honor for front fighters. In December 1920 he married the non-Jewish Charlotte Schnelle. This “mixed marriage” protected him from deportation. Arthur David lost his eyesight during the 1930s.
He worked in the Hermann Tietz & Co. department store on Berlin’s Alexanderplatz until he was dismissed in 1936 as a result of antisemitic legislation. Arthur David was drafted into forced labor in the course of the war for various civil engineering companies, and later worked for Otto Weidt. The type and duration of his work for Weidt is unknown. During “Operation Factory” he was imprisoned in the assembly camp on Große Hamburger Straße for around a week in March 1943.
Arthur David died in Berlin-Baumschulenweg on December 24, 1962.
