Bernhard Bromberger
Bernhard Bromberger was born in Adelnau in the province of Posen in 1877. He married Lina Neumark in 1908; the couple went on to have three sons and a daughter. He served as a private in the First World War.
The family moved to Berlin in 1919, and he opened the cotton goods wholesale store Bernhard Bromberger, Engross Textiles Export in Berlin-Mitte. He was forced to sell the business significantly below value at the end of 1938. Bernhard Bromberger suffered from an eye disease and lost his sight. His children managed to escape the country. Lina and Bernhard Bromberger also attempted to emigrate, receiving a certificate for departure to British-mandated Palestine. It is not known why they did not leave Germany, but his blindness may have been the reason.
Bernhard Bromberger worked as a brush-maker for Otto Weidt until he was deported at the age of 65 with his wife Lina to Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp on February 19, 1943. The couple were murdered there.
