Museum Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt –biographie

Kurt Abraham was born in Breslau on January 24, 1906. He married in 1931 and was divorced in 1939. He lived at Landsberger Allee 154 in Berlin-Friedrichshain, later as a subtenant at Koppenstraße 9 in Berlin-Mitte. From 1939/40 until October 17, 1941, he worked as a brush binder at Otto Weidt’s workshop. He was blind and had restricted mobility. During the first deportation from Berlin on October 18, 1941, Kurt Abraham was taken to the Litzmannstadt ghetto along with around 1,000 other Jews. Otto Weidt had to pay Kurt Abraham’s outstanding wages, amounting to 7.50 reichsmarks, to the Berlin-Brandenburg finance authority. This sum and a savings account balance of 1.53 reichsmarks were declared “forfeited to the Reich.” Kurt Abraham was transferred to the Kulmhof extermination site on May 8, 1942 and murdered there. A Stolperstein memorial stone has been installed in his memory outside the building at Platz der Vereinten Nationen 26 in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
