Hans Rosenthal

Hans Rosenthal was born in Berlin in 1903. He worked as an engineer at the Osram concern. When he was dismissed from the firm because he was Jewish, he became head of supplies and purchasing for the Jewish Community. He also had to provide the Gestapo with goods, and became so indispensable to them that his deportation was deferred.

Hans Rosenthal was a close friend of Inge Deutschkron. When she was listed for deportation he was able to get her name struck off the deportation list. Hans Rosenthal warned Otto Weidt before the big police raids known as “Operation Factory” in February and March 1943, when around 8,000 Jews were arrested and deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Hans Rosenthal had contact to the resistance group, Community for Peace and Reconstruction, and the printing press owner Theodor Görner.

Hans Rosenthal survived in Berlin and emigrated to the USA after the war.
