Successful Rescues

Otto Weidt went to great effort to protect his Jewish workers from persecution and deportation. When the threat of National Socialist persecution grew ever greater, and the danger of deportation to the ghettos and extermination camps in occupied Poland or the occupied parts of the Soviet Union steadily increased, Otto Weidt looked for places for some of them to hide.

Otto Weidt found quarters for the Licht family at Neanderstraße 12 (now Heinrich-Heine-Straße). He gave Inge Deutschkron a factory identity card under a false name, which she could use to get through spot-checks. Thanks to Otto Weidt’s intervention, Hedwig Porschütz took the twin sisters Marianne and Annelies Bernstein into her home near Alexanderplatz. These are only a few examples of the many kinds of aid provided by Otto Weidt and his helpers.
